Labour agreements are formal arrangements to recruit a number of overseas skilled workers. Both temporary and permanent visas can be granted under the agreement. Agreements are generally effective for 2 to 3 years.
A labour agreement application may suit an employer where:
- An industry association has put in place an agreement for the supply of in demand skill sets under the Temporary Business Long Stay programme.
- A genuine skill shortage exists but the needed occupations are not covered by other skilled migration programmes
- Large numbers of workers are needed for short term projects where the workers are not available in the local Australian labour market.
- It suits the relevant industry in which the labour requirement exists
