The Contributory Parent Visa (Migrant), Subclass 173 to 143 visa is a permanent visa that allows parents in Australia on a temporary subclass 173 visa to remain in Australia permanently.

To be eligible you must hold or have held a subclass 173 visa and must have a child who is an Australian citizen or eligible New Zealand citizen who is a permanent resident and settled in Australia and can pass the ‘balance of family test’.

Your child or other eligible sponsor in Australia must sponsor you and they must provide the Australian with an assurance of support on your behalf. Your spouse and other family members may be included in your application if they meet certain requirements.

With this visa you can study and work, access certain social security and be eligible to apply for Australian Citizenship.
