The Australian Contributory Parent Visa (Temporary), Subclass 173  is a temporary visa that allows who have children residing in Australia, to travel to and live in Australia for 2 years. You cannot extend or renew this visa.

To be eligible you must have a child who is an Australian citizen or eligible New Zealand citizen who is a permanent resident and settled in Australia and can pass the ‘balance of family test’.

Your child or other eligible sponsor in Australia must sponsor you and they must provide the Australian with an assurance of support on your behalf. Your spouse and other family members may be included in your application if they meet certain requirements.

With this visa you can study and work, have access to Medicare and apply for a permanent visa to remain in Australian and ultimately gain Australian citizenship.
